MVCAA's Educational Resources Equip Families with Essential Tools that Promote Family Literacy.
Literacy Provides a Pathway Out of Poverty
Family Literacy is a proactive educational reform strategy based on the notion that if a program provides effective, early childhood experiences—coupled with solid research-based literacy instruction to children and their parents—that families may liberate themselves from poverty and low educational achievement.
MVCAA’s Family Literacy Program includes:
- Adult literacy services
- Staff and volunteer tutoring services
- GED pre-testing
- Parent education in child development
- Early literacy activities at home and during Family Fun Nights that include nutritional activities, “Reading is Fundamental,” among other things
- Family assessments
- Monthly materials in from the Parent Education Notebook
